Yes. We always try our hardest to accommodate our students’ needs. Just let us and your host family know what you need. The markets in San Pedro sell many varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as nuts, seeds and grains, so it is possible to accommodate all diets.
Our first goal for the school is to provide an excellent Spanish learning experience for students. Our second goal is to provide a living wage for as many people associated with the school as possible. This includes the host families, teachers, shuttle and taxi drivers, food vendors, construction workers, and Mayan artisans (weavers, bee keepers, cacao processors, agriculture workers), and Mayan muralists.
You will spend time with your host family during meals and if you have any needs during your stay. They will be occupied with their own lives during the day and you can feel free to come and go as much as you please. You will not be an interruption at all.

It’s true that a few neighborhoods in Guatemala City deal with extortion, however, most of the city itself is safe. It would also be safe to take a public bus all the way to San Pedro. If you would like extra security, we can meet you at the airport with a private taxi (for 2 people it is $60 each). We will safely drive you the 4.5 hours to San Pedro which is a very secure pueblo, along with most other pueblos in Guatemala. In San Pedro there is a strong sense of community and security. In fact, young girls can safely walk alone in the streets at night. Once you decide on your trip with us, we will be in close Whatsapp communication the whole way, and we will meet you in San Pedro when you get here. We provide door-to-door service.
The most popular option among our students is through Antigua, which is another city about an hour away from Guatemala City. Once you arrive at the airport, we recommend taking a taxi or UBER to Antigua, and once you are there, we can book a shared shuttle for you for Q125 / $17 USD. It goes directly to San Pedro, Lake Atitlan with departures at 5:00 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
We can also arrange a private taxi service for you from the airport at any time or day for Q900 / $117 USD.
